This town was called Siem Reap that means the defeat of Thai (Siem, Siamese and Thai are the same) but it is a next name of this town. Probably name was called in the reign of king Anchorage 1st who was in power from A.D1516-1566 that is can reminded the next generations to know about the defeat Siamese military who had lost their war in this area, this provincial town is located south of Angkor about 7 kilometers and north of along the bank.

Siem Reap comprises 10.299 square kilometers which divided in to 11districts, 87 communes, 921 villages and 1city with the population nearly 1 million who live in province city but the people live in downtown about 197.301 and the town land is only 306 square kilometers. Siem Reap was a land of cultural heritage, in Siem Reap there were 246 temples but most of them are still overgrown except 38 temples are now accessible such as Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta prom, Banteay Srei...etc., and there were 239 hillocks (the ancient of hillock). In the whole country there were 5013 temples (document of Teacher Chanpeakei in year 2011).

Siem Reap is far from Phnom Penh city about 314 kilometers (No. 6), its

border is (linked) bordered between 5 provinces:

1. Siem Reap to Oddor Meanchey province at the north.

2. Siem Reap to Battambang province and Tonle Sap Lake at the south.

3. Siem Reap to Preah Vihea Province at the north-east.

4. Siem Reap to Kampong Thom province at the east.

5. Siem Reap to Banteaymeanchey province at the west.
